“On Japan Diaries, there is no resolution, only an allure that inspires longing for something else. Pulling from our reservoir of dreams and imagination, paying homage to Japanese cinema and photography; the sexual energy of Nagisa Oshima and Noboyuki Araki, to the Ero Guro paintings of Toshio Saeki. Here we set out to create a body of work that shows the viewer our Japan that is mesmerizing, intimidating, disorienting, upsetting, poignant and yes, beautiful.”
